Senzala is an association created in November 1996, and this year it celebrates 20 years of existence.
Its goal is broadcasting, in France and Europe, the Afro-Brazilian culture, outcome of the mixing of African slaves, Indians from Latin America, and the European colonizers.
The Senzala Association has set itself the goal of specifically developing Brazilian culture, including "Capoeira", which is a synthesis of dance, fight and acrobatic moves.
From our point of view, art the best way to express our culture ?
Capoeira was created by African slaves at the time of slave repression. It made it possible for them to express themselves and defend themselves against the oppressive system.
Capoeira is both an art, a sport and a martial art.
The interest in this culture is increasingly growing since it comes to counter the usual "snapshots" from Brazil.
Senzala claims a greater awareness of this Afro-Brazilian popular culture.
